Witch Chicken Fingers

Today there is a Halloween potluck party at my son's preschool.  After much deliberation I decided to make chicken fingers.  I made these a few years ago and packed them in a bento.  I thought they would be fun and spooky for the three year olds.  Plus you get to dip them in something, what three year old doesn't like that?!

I used this baked chicken nugget recipe.  I modified the process a little since I baked them in my witch fingers pan versus using a cookie cutter.  To make the fingers:  brush finger section of pan with oil, sprinkle small amount of bread crumb mixture in cavity, press chicken mixture into finger section, then sprinkle the backside with the bread crumb mixture.  After sprinkling the back of the chicken firmly press the chicken into the mold.  Bake at 375 for 15-20 minutes, pop the chicken out and repeat.

I bought these little cauldrons from Target (they were in the dollar spot) and thought they were perfect for using as the dipping container.  Squirt desired condiment in the bottom and top off with three chicken fingers.  Perfect "finger" food for the preschooler.

I just finished all of them this morning and now I am off to the party.  Maybe some of you can use this idea for a Halloween party this weekend, but all of you can pin it for next year.

Frankenstein

Welcome to the annual Bento Bloggers & Friends Halloween Hop.  Follow the hop to see all the fun, yet spooky bento lunches.  This year I choose to do a Frankenstein themed lunch for our hop.

In this PlanetBox:  Cheez-Its accented with Frankenstein's screw,  grave dolmas (stuffed grape leaves), ghost yogurt covered raisins, Frankenstein peanut butter and cocoa almond butter sandwich, and strawberries with stitches.  The plastic screw and stitches are from a Frankenstein pumpkin decorating kit that I bought from Dollar Tree last year.

Frankenstein sandwich close up.

Now hop on over to Little Miss Bento and see what Halloween fun Shirley has cooked up!

Have a safe & happy Halloween!

It's the Great Pumpkin

"Each year, the Great Pumpkin rises out of the pumpkin patch that he thinks is the most sincere. He's gotta pick this one. He's got to. I don't see how a pumpkin patch can be more sincere than this one. You can look around and there's not a sign of hypocrisy. Nothing but sincerity as far as the eye can see."   ~ Linus

Did you think I would forget to make an It's the Great Pumpkin bento this year???  Of course not!  My kids have been watching it regularly since it aired almost two weeks ago.

In this bento:  Cream cheese and jelly Linus sandwich, Halloween (pumpkins & bats) pretzels, orange pepper pumpkins, and green grapes.  I etched in the pumpkin lines with a paring knife.

I found a set of Peanuts vintage cookie cutters at a thrift store a couple of years ago.  The Peanuts bento boxes are from Bento A Day.

"I was robbed! I spent the whole night waiting for the Great Pumpkin, when I could have been out for tricks or treats.  Halloween is over, and I missed it!"  ~ Sally

Mummy & Black Cat Bentos

A couple more Halloween themed bento lunches coming up.  First one up is my boy's mummy lunch. I quite like this one - easy & cute!

In this bento:  Ham, pita crackers, cheese stick, strawberries, and a rice krispies treat.  This bento is photoed on top of a Halloween Funkin.  Sadly, my son was not allowed to eat the rice krispies treat at school because the teacher thought it was candy, but no worries as he got to enjoy it as soon as he got home from preschool :)

The next one is a black cat burrito lunch for my daughter.   Simple & spooky!

In this bento:  Crinkle cut carrots, apple slices, and a bean and cheese burrito (cut into two pieces).

Jack-O-Lanterns

This weekend was jam packed full of pumpkin fun.  There was a hayride to the pumpkin patch at preschool on Friday and this is the lunch that I sent with my littlest one.

In this bento:  Green grapes with orange pepper face details, dolmas (stuffed grape leaves),  orange pepper strips.

We carved our pumpkins this weekend and entered them into the annual pumpkin walk.

My son chose a dinosaur to be carved on his pumpkin and my daughter, of course, chose Elsa.  I used this dinosaur stencil and this Elsa stencil.  They turned out better than expected :)
