Monster Truck

Bento & Co hosted their annual bento contest at the beginning of this month (July).  This year there was a list of very specific ingredients that needed to be used in the bento.  The ingredients were:  potato, tomato, carrot, broccoli, rice, eggs, chicken, plus one ingredient of your choice.  My ingredient of choice was refried beans.  I decided to make a monster truck bento for my littlest.  I must say he was THRILLED to eat this lunch :-D  Although I was not a finalist, I had fun putting my spin on the ingredients and packing the bento with my own unique style.

In the background is scrambled eggs, refried beans "mud",  broccoli,  and chicken nuggets cut in half. The body of the monster truck is mashed purple potatoes with carrot "flame" decoration. The tires are black rice with yellow tomato and carrot rims.  I placed a checkered flag pick in the upper corner for a little more fun and decoration.

I wanted to use the unusual versions of the mandatory ingredients to help make my bento stand out.  To be unique I chose purple potatoes, yellow tomatoes, black rice, and scrambled eggs ;)

Grilled Cheese Picnic Lunches

Picnic lunches at the park.  My daughter requested grilled cheese for this outing.  I wrapped the sandwiches in tin foil to help keep them warm until we were at the park and ready to eat them.

In mom's lunch:  Blueberries, strawberries, and a grilled cheese sandwich.

The kids had identical lunches and the halves of their grilled cheese sandwich are stacked on top of each other.

In the kids' lunches: Apricot halves, strawberries, and a grilled cheese sandwich.

*The containers I used to pack the kids' lunches in were from the Target dollar spot.

More Day Camp Lunches

More day camp lunches and snacks.  In today's post I am sharing another week's worth of day camp lunches that I made for my daughter earlier this summer.

Lunch:  Ham roll ups, baked fries, ginger cookies, strawberries, and cucumbers.

Snacks:  Yogurt covered star cookies and plantain chips.  Blueberries, baby carrots, and cotton candy grapes.

Lunch:  Leftover pizza, baby carrots, cucumber slices, and mango chunks.

Snacks: The first snack was packed in our new Frozen bento box! Blueberries and edamame sprinkled with sea salt.  Apple sauce cup.

Lunch:  Sweet peppers, cucumbers, rocket shaped cheese crackers and My Melody and friend ham sandwiches.  I kept this lunch on the smaller side because I felt the snacks were rather large on this day.

Snacks:  Regular tortilla chips & blue corn tortilla chips with salsa for dipping.  Cherries and cotton candy grapes.

Lunch:  Half of a cheeseburger (leftover from dinner), baby carrots, strawberries, cheese stick, and apple sauce.

Snacks:  Cherries, orange slices, and Scooby-Doo graham cracker sticks.

Lunch:  Crinkle cut cucumbers, cherries, cotton candy grapes, and a pita wrap.  The pita has ham, salami, sprouts, olives, mushrooms, and shredded cheese.

Snacks:  Pita crackers and black bean hummus.  Mango chunks and sweet peppers.
