Leftovers on Fridays - Rainbow lunch

We have had an unusual amount of rain this summer in northern Arizona.  I decided to make a lunch to encourage the weather to be a little drier for the upcoming weekend.  This weekend is the county fair and fingers crossed for a little sunshine!

rainbow, bento, vegetarian, leftover pasta, goldfish, easylunchboxes, umbrella, school lunch

Top:  Goldfish, red grapes, and a cucumber umbrella

Bottom:  Rainbow made from grape tomatoes, orange and yellow pepper, green chili, and black olives.  The rainbow is on top of  a leftover bow tie pasta dish.

When I picked my daughter up from preschool on the day she ate this lunch, there was a rainbow in the sky!  Perfect <3

A is for Apple

Remember last year I was doing a letter lunch every week after I realized my daughter's preschool was learning a different letter each week.  I started at letter G and ended at letter V.  After we started a different preschool, I never did get back to the letter lunches.  I decided it was time to start doing some letters again and today we start at the beginning of the alphabet since I did not get to start there last year.

bento, apple, letter A, Ugly lunchbox, school lunch, kids lunch

Left side:  "A" sandwich made with Italian bread and turkey breast, grape tomatoes, and cucumbers.

Right side:  Everything pretzel crisps and an small apple.

This lunch is packed in an Ugly Marius lunch box.

The Peanuts Gang in a PlanetBox

This year I decided to do my Halloween costume shopping early!  This (and the weather today) got me in a "fallish" mood and reminded me that Charlie Brown TV specials are just around the corner.  I know, I know, Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin is still 2 months away from airing but trust me that time will fly by!

I dug out some of my old Peanuts bento things and mixed them with some new things I ordered at the beginning of the summer.

In this PlanetBox:  Lucy sandwich made with Italian bread and turkey breast, mini club crackers with peanut butter to spread in the Woodstock cup, red grapes, mango with Snoopy stamped on, a piece of and apple Nutri-Grain bar with Snoopy drawn on, red & orange pepper rings.

Pack A Lunch in A Crayon Storage Box

Wanting to try bento lunches?  Having a hard time finding those awesome bento boxes and tools in your area? Well, lucky for you, it is back to school time and there are lots of unconventional things you can use for a bento box.  For example, I found my sister-in-law found some cool crayon tins and thought they would be perfect for my bento stash.  I quickly put them to use!  Thinking outside of the norm can turn into a great bento-tunity!  What preschooler would not love to have a lunch in a crayon box?

In this lunch:  Corn on the cob with a little butter, roll ups made with tortilla, salami, ham, and cheese, orange sweet peppers, black olives, grape tomatoes, Stauffer's whale crackers, and red grapes.

The pie shaped silicone cups are from Oriental Trading Co.

This lunch was packed in the larger crayon tin.

**UPDATE** 8/23/13

The manufacturer of the Crayola storage tin is The Tin Box Company.  It is stated on their website that they manufacture all their tins per the Children's Product Safety Improvement Act guidelines.  After receiving a concerned comment about the food safeness of this box I emailed the company regarding just that.  Per the Tin Box Company, "All tins are food safe and tested under FDA standards".

In this lunch:  Applesauce with "fly" raisins, cucumber "Lilly pads", sweet pepper rings, green olives, and a frog sandwich made with ham, salami, and Italian bread.

This lunch is packed in my PlanetBox Shuttle.

Back to Preschool

Tomorrow is the first day of the new preschool year.  My daughter is very excited to return to preschool.  I made her a "back to school" bento lunch for her first day back, complete with ABCs, 123s, and a pencil to write those letters and numbers with.

Left box:  Pencil sandwich made with tortilla, ham, egg sheet, and yellow pepper.  There is a chocolate chip used as the lead and it is glued on with peanut butter.  Under the pencil tip is dried mango.
(And of course this is a #2 pencil)

Right box:  Scrabble Cheez-Its, red grapes, and cucumbers.  The 1-2-3 are sweet peppers.  The 2 & 3 are inlaid in the cucumber slice.

This lunch is packed in our bus bento box.

Glinda the Good Witch

A Glinda the Good Witch lunch made with a lunch punch from the sandwishes set.  This particular cutter always reminds me of Glinda from The Wizard of Oz!  A lunch punch is always a great way to make a quick and cute lunch.

Top:  Sweet peppers, black and green olives, strawberries, and blackberries (accented with a magic wand pick)..

Bottom:  "Glinda" sandwich made with turkey and Italian bread.

Rock the Lunch Box - Picnic Lunches

Back to school season is upon us and everyone is searching for some new school lunch ideas.  Rock the lunch box is a great resource where you can find "rocking ideas on what to pack".  Rock the lunch box is sponsored by four companies:  Stonyfield, Organic Valley, Honest Kids, and Annie's Homegrown.  I was contacted by them to pack a couple lunches for this campaign.  We decided to take our lunches outdoors and have a rocking picnic in the park.

Lunch # 1 - The bunny lunch

Honest kids fruit punch, Stonyfield Yo Kids blueberry yogurt, black olives, hummus in the bunny sauce container (dip for the broccoli), Organic Valley string cheese, Annie's cheddar bunnies, Annie's bunny fruit snacks, peanut butter and honey mini pocket sandwiches, cherries, and broccoli.

Food items used in these picnic lunches.

Lunch #2 - My toddler's lunch

Organic Valley milk, half a bean and cheese burrito, Annie's shells and white cheddar with broccoli mixed in, Stonyfield Yo Kids smoothie, and Annie's cheddar bunnies.
