April Fools Day

It is April Fools' Day!  Don't let anyone make a fool out of you :-)  I wanted to make a special little lunch to celebrate. I could not come up with a good "prank" lunch theme so I just went with a silly face.

Top Row:  Two hardboiled egg eyeballs and cubed ham.

Middle:  Marbled cheese nose.

Bottom Row:  Clementine, tatter tots, and sweet peppers.

My Melody

A My Melody lunch today!  Super easy and quick to make.  Less than 10 minutes and I think it still goes with the Easter theme since it is a bunny character.

Starting on the bottom:  My Melody sandwiches made with cracked wheat sourdough bread and ham.  They are on top of Annie's bunny grahams (a mix of cinnamon and chocolate ones).  Then there are carrots, blackberries, and yellow pepper rings.

Bunny Hello Kitty Onigiri

Today I had "too much time on my hands" and set out to try a new technique.  I wanted to make stuffed onigiri to match my Hello Kitty Easter treat container.  In case you have no idea what onigiri is it is a rice ball.

Top Left:  Applesauce with flower sprinkles.

Top Right:  Annie's chocolate and cinnamon graham crackers (they are bunny shaped).  On top is half of the bunny HK treat container.  I originally planned to put the crackers in the container, however, the container is too fat and I was unable to close the lid.

Bottom:  Two bunny Hello Kitty onigiri (rice balls) with black beans stuffed in the middle.  There is also orange and yellow sweet pepper rings.

So, I thought I was being genius and decided I would use the treat containers as the rice mold.  Not genius.  There is a reason why they make rice molds the way they do....to easily remove the rice of course!  Lets just say it was quite a challenge to ease the onigiri out of the treat container.  Next time I will just use my bunny rice mold!  I decorated the onigiri with a paint brush and food coloring gel.

Cute Easter Bento in Under 15 Minutes

What is the most popular question asked about bentos?  How much time does it take to make those lunches.  Or, another version is you have way too much time on your hands!  So, I set out tonight to answer the question for myself and others.  This bento took 13min 52sec.  Yes, I timed it.  Fun and healthy lunches don't have to take a lot of time.

Top Left:  Blackberries and clementine wedges.

Top Right:  Sweet pepper rings and egg shaped cucumber slices.

Bottom:  Tortilla and ham sandwiches (two sandwiches are made with regular tortilla and the bunny on the left is made with blue corn tortilla) and goldfish.

Easter Bunny and Baby Chick Bento

Back to school tomorrow.  This is the first Easter bento of the week to celebrate the upcoming holiday.

Top left:  Baby chick is a hard boiled egg cut open and decorated with blackberry eyes and carrot beak.  He is held together with a toothpick in the back.  I saw lots of different versions of these on pinterest.  Most of them were deviled eggs.  The baby chick is sitting on a bed of green pepper "Easter grass".

Top right:  Blackberries and oyster crackers in the bunny cup.

Bottom:  Baby carrots, flower cucumbers, and a peanut butter and blue corn tortilla bunny sandwich with a marshmallow cotton tail, blackberry eye, and angel hair pasta whiskers.
