Ice Skating

This upcoming week's theme at Bento Blog Network is winter sports.  I have always been a fan of ice skating.  Not only watching it on television but also getting out on the ice when I have extra time (which is really never at the present time).  It was a "no brainer" as to which winter sport I would make in my bento.

Top Left:  Clementine orange and blueberries.

Top right:  carrots and strawberries

Bottom:  Applesauce, cucumbers, peanut butter and tortilla sandwich with ice skater, and tucked under the sandwich are a few pretzels.

BBN bento of the week!

Alice in Wonderland

Today (Sunday, Jan.27th) is Lewis Carroll's birthday.  He is the author of the well known children's book Alice in Wonderland.  To celebrate Bent On Better Lunches is hosting an Alice in Wonderland linky party.

In the top row:  Peanut butter and blue corn tortilla sandwiches decorated with a key hole,  Mad Hatter tomatoes and sweet pepper rings, shiitake mushrooms and a blueberry caterpillar.

In the bottom row:  Chess board pear (this is the first attempt I have done using this technique from Bento for Kidlet), white rice and an American cheese clock.

I cheated a little and printed out the book cover and taped  it to the lid flap on the left.

And I could not resist writing on her milk bottle!

Chick-fil-a

Yes, you read that right!  I am doing a Chick-fil-a bento in honor of the grand opening of the Chick-fil-a restaurant in my town.

Left Box:  Chick-fil-a chicken nuggets, green beans, blackberries, strawberries, orange pepper rings, and black olives.

Right Box:  Cow sandwich made with tortilla and peanut butter (the decoration was done with my foodoodler marker) and a Chick-fil-a mint.

I love Chick-fil-a and I am very excited that a "real" one has now opened in my town!  I say "real" because there is a small Chick-fil-a express at NAU (Northern Arizona University).  I was one of the crazy people that packed up the kids and went to the college campus to get my Chick-fil-a fix!  Thankfully, I will not have to hike from a far away parking space with two small kids to get there anymore.

This bento was inspired by the Chick-fil-a cow mascot.  When we went there last week they were giving the little stuffed cow to kids at the entrance.

There is the cow!  I traced around his body to make the cow sandwich.

Lunch Punch Giveaway

I have been using my lunch punches for a couple of months now.  I love them!  A great tool to make cute and fun lunches quickly!

To create the elephant sandwich:

1. Center the lunch punch on your bread. (I flatten my bread first with a rolling pin)

2. Press the lunch punch down while twisting from side to side.

3.  Pop the sandwich out with your fingers.  Voila!

And here is the lunch I made.

Top Box:  Smoked turkey and wheat sandwich, green beans, grape tomatoes, and black olives.

Bottom Box:  Strawberries, blackberries, and peanuts.

If you would like to see more bento lunches I have made using the lunch punch click here.

Winnie the Pooh

January 18th is A.A. Milne's birthday.  He authored the books of Winnie the Pooh.  Since today is his birthday my bento blogger friends and I are making Winnie the Pooh themed lunches.  There is a linky at the bottom of this post for anyone to link up their own Pooh lunches.

Top Box:  Leftover lo mein noodles with tigger tail carrots, grape tomatoes, black olives, and a leftover sausage carved into a piglet shape.

Bottom Box:  Blueberries in a bear shaped cup,  cucumbers shaped like the "hunny" pot with yellow sweet pepper honey, and a pooh bear sandwich made with tortilla, ham, and American cheese on top.

Today is Friday and I was determined to still use leftovers in this lunch.  However, the linky at the bottom of the post is for  Winnie the Pooh themed lunches.  The leftovers on Fridays linky will return next Friday.
