Guess what!  I have officially been published in a book.  Myself and a few other bento bloggers are featured in "Lunches for Kids:  Halloween Ideas-Book One".  In fact this very lunch is in the book :)

On a side note, we did carve our pumpkin yesterday.......Hello Kitty!!

C is for Cat

Getting back to the alphabet, today we have a C is for cat lunch.  Since it is Halloween season we made the cats a little spooky.

In this lunch:  Red grapes, pomegranate seeds, WOWBUTTER and crackers (the top cracker has WOWBUTTER spread on top then I used my mini spooky cat cutter placed on top and sprinkled black sesame seeds.  The eyes of the cat are white sesame seeds), grape tomatoes, sugar snap peas, cat shaped carrots, dried mangoes, and "CAT" Trader Joe's cinnamon schoolbook cookies.

This lunch is packed in our Hello Kitty bento box of course ;-)

The awesome team at WOWBUTTER sent me some jars of WOWBUTTER to test out for myself.  I received it today and we did a little taste test immediately.  My kid's really liked it and so did mom and dad.  More information later when I publish my official review.  I thought it would be fun to share my friend Nina's, from Mamabelly's lunches with loveWOWBUTTER giveaway.  Click on over and enter for a chance to win your own WOWBUTTER.  The giveaway ends on the evening of 10/24/13.

Frightful Fall Hop - Mummy

Welcome to the Bento Bloggers & Friends Frightful Fall Blog Hop.  Click on the button near the end of this post to follow the hop and see every one's terrifyingly frightful lunches!  Our lunch is what I like to call, "a yummy mummy lunch".

Top box:  Baby carrots, black plum wedges, soft pretzel pieces, pretzel salt with black peppercorn eyes, and baby heirloom tomatoes.  The little mummy in the tomatoes is from a set of Halloween wood clips I found at Michaels last year.

Bottom box:  Mummy pretzels (pretzel pieces wrapped up in string cheese), ham, strawberry, and cucumbers.

You could definitely use a hot dog instead of pretzel pieces to make these mummies.  One of these mummies would also make a good baby Jesus for a Christmas bento lunch...hint, hint you may see this again :)

Now, click the button above and hop on over to Licious Lunches and see another frightening fall lunch.

I received happy bento mail the other day :-)  I was very excited to receive the new CuteZcute animal palz!!! They are super cute, versatile, and easy to use.  I promptly put them to good use.  Welcome to Transylvania!

Top section:  Bat/vampire peanut butter pocket sandwiches, pretzel stick "stakes", spider gummies, and vampire teeth shaped applesauce. The applesauce was frozen in this mold.  And yes, it will be completely melted by lunch.  But hey, it keeps the apple sauce cold!  My original plan was to use eggs to make the teeth but I only had two eggs in the house and well, it just did not work.  I need to experiment more........

Bottom section:  Red grapes, grape tomatoes, and coffin shaped cucumbers.

Small compartments:  Red grapes, orange mini sweet pepper rings, grape tomatoes, and sugar snap peas.

The black skull pick was found in the Target dollar spot.

Ghost lunch

I have been seeing a number of fun ghost lunches lately.  I took inspiration from a couple of my favorites and combined the ideas into this lunch.

Top Box:  Ghostly peanuts (faces drawn on with a sharpie), pepperoni, sugar snap peas, and baby heirloom tomatoes.

Bottom Box:  Mini pizzas made with and English muffin (cut in half) tomato sauce, oregano, ghost shaped mozzarella cheese, and black olive details.

Sources of inspiration:

Ghost peanuts - Kitchen fun with my 3 sons

Ghost mini pizza - Bento school lunches

I cheated with the pumpkin faces!  I used my photo editor to place the jack 'o lantern faces on the tomatoes.  My food markers will not write on the tomatoes.

Halloween Angry Birds

In this lunch:  Kiwi berries, applesauce, Angry Bird cheese nips, black olives (I had some mutant ones in my jar-cut on the sides instead of top & bottom), grape tomatoes, baby carrots, and an Angry Bird Frankenstein pig sandwich.  The sandwich is ham on Italian bread.  Decorated with an Angry Bird pig lip pop stem and pieces from a Frankenstein pumpkin decorating kit (from the Dollar Tree).  He has candy eyes and cheese stick ears.  I used the larger container that comes with the PlanetBox rover to cut the bread into a circle to be used for the pig's head.

Special thanks to Michelle of Creative Fun Food for sending me the Angry Bird lip pops :-)
Check out the fun food she made with the lip pops here.

CuteZcute Bento Box Review - Penguin

CuteZcute has new cute bento boxes!  The boxes are available in panda, penguin or owl design.  I chose the penguin one.....

Look how cute!

It comes with everything you see in the above picture.  Two tiers, dome shaped lid, bowl lid, and strap (not pictured).  I love that the lid allows extra space for tall items in the top tier!

This bento box is perfect to pair with a thermos lunch!  You can use the lid/bowl as a serving dish for your thermos contents.  My daughter had this lunch last week, when I picked her up she was still excited about being able to transfer her thermos food into the bowl before eating it.  My daughter is only four and figured this out all on her own!  We are looking forward to using this bento box along with our thermos frequently during the colder months to come.

Top:  Rice and black beans.

Bottom:  Kiwi berries, olive penguins with carrot accents, olives, grape tomatoes, baby carrots and cucumber penguins.

One of my friends made these penguins years ago at party and I basically copied those.  However, if you are looking for exact details on how to make them you can find them on Pinterest.  I did swap out the cream cheese for a piece of mozzarella cheese stick.  My daughter is very finicky about cheese.  She will only eat string cheese or American cheese and even when I pack those there is a 50/50 chance it will return home in her lunchbox.

This particular lunch was a huge hit and every morsel was eaten :-D

I tucked some penguin shaped tortilla pieces on top of the dome lid, under the bowl lid.

We give this bento box two thumbs up!  Super cute and functional.  Great for a snack, a small child's lunch, or a thermos lunch companion.

These bento boxes are available at BentoUSA and Amazon.

Disclosure - The CuteZcute penguin bento box was sent to me for free to be reviewed on this blog.  No further compensation was received.

Items used in this lunch:

We suffered our first bento casualty this day.  The Hello Kitty bow picks did not return from school :-(
