A New Pope

There is a new Pope in the Vatican.  It has been three weeks since he was officially elected.  Since this is a historical occasion (Pope Benedict XVI was the first pope to retire in 600 years) I thought it would be fun to make a bento.  I made this bento for a co-worker that insisted I should make this for my daughter.  However, I figured it would be better suited to be lunch for him.

Left Box:  Mitre (Pope's hat) sandwich made of provolone cheese, pastrami, and cracked wheat sour dough bread.  A marbled cheese cross on top of  the mitre for decoration.  The mitre is surrounded by colorful veggie chips that represent the stained glass found in Catholic churches. The bottom section has blackberries topped with red pepper papal shoes.

Right Box:  Bed of white rice, blue corn tortilla roof, and black bean chimney.  The top section has baked yam with marshmallow white smoke signaling the election of the new pope.
