Leftovers on Friday: Butterflies

I am feeling creative again tonight!  We had farfalle (bow tie) pasta the other night and my daughter likes to think that it is butterfly pasta.  Of course since it is Friday I need to use leftovers, therefore, it is an automatic butterfly theme.  Have a safe and happy Labor day weekend!

Top Box:  Butterfly pasta, black olives behind the butterfly baran, sesame cashews (they look like butterflies if you lie them next to each other just right).  cucumbers, and grapes

Bottom Box:  Butterfly shaped banana bread, craisins, ham,  pirate booty (also looks like butterfly when put side by side), red sweet pepper, blueberries, coconut, and cucumber.  **This was the big creative moment tonight.  I took one of the cucumbers that i had punched out the butterfly shape from and filled the cut out with blueberries and used the red pepper to sprinkle around it.**

American Red Cross

There was a blood drive today in my town and I was talked into giving blood today by one of my co-workers.  This was my very first time giving blood and to my delight it was really a good experience.  However, after taking care of my kids this evening I am feeling a little fatigued.  Perhaps I have a little less blood flow to my brain tonight that is making me not think clearly!  So, as a result we have ended up with an American Red Cross preschool lunch!  Give the gift of life :-)

Top Box:  Strawberry cereal bar with craisin cross.

Middle Box:  Ham, cheese, and tortilla USA sandwich on top of carrots and sugar snap peas.

Bottom Box:  Blueberries, midnight grapes, and cherries.

Ice Cream

I was suffering from a lack of inspiration tonight.  I was looking through my bento stuff and the kids started playing with their Melissa & Doug ice cream set.  As a result, I ended up just going with an ice cream theme :-)

Left Box:  Whole grain pita bread and peanut butter sandwich decorated with food coloring markers.  There is a bite out of the ice cream due to a mishap with the wrong colored marker.  Tucked underneath is an ice cream shaped graham cracker.

Top Box:  Sugar snap peas with mini ice cream shaped olives and cucumber ice cream cones in a cup.

Bottom Box:  Salami ice cream cones in a bow cup, nectarine slices with blueberries and coconut ice cream cones on top.

Bearizona

On Saturday my little family finally got to go and check out Bearizona.  It is a pretty cool place.  The first part your drive through in your car and the second part is like a mini zoo.  There are many, many black bears there.  To commemorate this little visit we must have a Monday Bearizona bento and keep the fun going!

Top  Box:  Blueberries in a bear head cup,  bear shaped cucumbers in square cup with bear peeking over the side,  sushi rice made with soy sauce to add color and olive decorations, sliced black olives,  pretzels, and carrot bearizona.

Bottom Box:  Bear shaped homemade banana bread,  whole grain goldfish crackers, and bear shaped ham.

A couple photos of the bears we saw.

This one crossed in front of our car.

Here are some of the baby bear cubs.
