Well, where do I begin?  I have run into some "road blocks" with the company Happy Tiffin.  This lunch has been in limbo for a couple of days now.  So today I will share the good, the bad, and the ugly.  First, I will start with the good.  The good being this cute lunch that I made in a fun car tiffin box.

Starting from left to right:  Cucumber cars, homemade cheese crackers (more about these below), grapes,  car shaped hard boiled egg, Lightning McQueen ham sandwich, black olives, and car kiwis.

These are the homemade cheese crackers that I finally got around to making!  I used this recipe that I found on Pinterest.  Turns out, they were really a lot easier to make than I had imagined and they were very yummy!

Moving on to the the bad.....

I have had my eye on this cute car tiffin that is sold only by Happy Tiffin for quite some time now.  Lets just say it was high on my "super want list" of bento supplies.  A few weeks ago I decided to bite the bullet and buy it.  Oddly enough, when I tried to order it would not let me do so due to an error in the shipping calculator.  The next day I went back to the website and it was down for maintenance.  This continued for about 2 weeks (websited down for maintenance).  Perhaps, this should have been a clue to me!  Regardless, I persevered and last week the sight was back up and running.  I quickly placed my order.  Now, these car tiffins are quite pricey coming in at $22 a pop (which is why I had only been eyeing them for a while).  On top of this the shipping is outrageous at $9.34 (almost half of the cost of the product).  At the time, I was just so happy to be able to finally place my order I just gave in to the shipping cost.  Then, Saturday came and there was a box from Happy Tiffin in my doorway.  I was very excited!  I took the box straight in to the kitchen to open it and what did I see.......my brand new car tiffin had a "flat tire".  A portion of the rear tire sticker was missing.  Really?!  Ughhhhh.

(These photos aren't the best quality as they were taken with my phone.)

Moving on to the ugly....

I promptly wrote the Happy Tiffin Co. regarding this defect and I actually sent them those same exact photos.  I anxiously awaited their reply but figured  they would not get back to me until Monday.  Monday rolls around and this is the response I recieved:

What?!!  Thanks Happy Tiffin for your awesome customer service!  At this point my blood was starting to boil and I had to take a few minutes to calm down before writing them back.   The second email I received from them was a little nicer and more sympathetic but the bottom line here is that I paid for a new non defective item and that is not what I received.  In the end I did get a little compensation.  I received a refund of 15% of the product price ($3.30).

Consumer alert:  Happy Tiffin = sad customer service.

  1. If only the missing part of the sticker was at the bottom, you could just call it a flat tire :)

Sorry you had such an unhappy experience with Happy Tiffin :(

  2. Wow that really sucks. I've encountered such terrific customer service from other bento/lunch companies. It's a shame Happy Tiffn doesn't meet the bar. =P

  3. Today's Bento is Adorable! Love the homemade crackers.
In this day and age customer service is everything, the "company that shall not be named" should be ashamed of themselves!
Thank you for letting the rest of us know so that we won't get duped too.

  5. Love the lunch. That box is super cute. Sucks that they chose to be such jerks over a flipping sticker!

Thanks for linking up to Tried-It-Tuesdays!

  6. That's disgusting! I can't believe they didn't offer anything more considering the item was, in my opinion, very expensive!

At least you managed to make a great lunch in it :)

  7. wow for that price I want perfectly new condition box, and 15 percent for defective? um I wouldn't pay more then 50 percent for a defect, 10 dollars nearly for shipping should cover for you to send back the defect and them send you new. Thanks for the heads up, I will NOT be buying from them with that kind of customer service, I am on too limited of a budget for that kind of non sense. I wonder if they have any insight at all on what one customer service mishap can cause them in future profits, I'm guessing a lot more then just replacing your "flat tire".
