Boba Tea

Well, I guess i can't take a day off from blogging.  This is the time when I would normally be making a lunch, but there is no preschool tomorrow.  This morning we went to the fair and had lots of fun!  There will be more about the fair later.  We needed something to fill the afternoon time with so, we made boba (bubble) tea.  What does this have to do with bentos you may ask.  Well, nothing really.  It is Asian and it is fun to look at.  That is all I can come up with.

I have played with the recipe a little to get it how I like it.  Since the instructions on the Boba milk tea bag are in Chinese I thought I would share it.

12 Tbsp of boba milk powder

4 oz of milk

3 Tbsp of sugar

24 oz of hot water

1/2 cup of ice

1/2 cup of tapioca pearls prepared per package directions (For some reason these instructions were on the bag in English).

Yields:  4  tall 8 oz glasses of boba tea.

This is what I used.

Greenmax boba milk tea powder - green tea flavor.  99 Ranch Market

WuFu Yuan Tapioca Pearl balls.  99 Ranch Market

Wide Straws.  Albertsons (lucky find!)  They called them milkshake straws.

You should be able to find these things at your local Asian market.  However, if you are like me and live in a small town, these items are very hard to find at regular grocery stores.  We usually stock up on these items when we are visiting other places.  I bought the tea powder when I was in Las Vegas and then bought the Tapioca pearls when we were in Los Angeles.  I did forget the straws but was lucky enough to find something that would work :-)
